About Malana Village
Malana is a hidden village surrounded by pines, far from the city. In the course of writing this article, I came across a report that Malana is no longer allowed to be visited by the public. This is because the 'hash' glorification of this village has infuriated their deity Jamlu. Yes, it is the village council & Jamlu who run the village. Strange but true! Read on to learn more about this hidden village.
Malana Village does not follow the Indian legal system. Hashish is the main source of income for the Malanese. Malana is famous for producing the best quality Hashish in the world. Photography and videography are strictly prohibited in most places in the village. You cannot even touch the houses without permission from the villagers. The village has close to 500 inhabitants with basic education and dispensaries. Most of the villagers get their daily food from Zari and Bhuntar. The Malanese people are said to be descended from Alexander and have features similar to the Greeks. I once saw a villager going upslope with an iron almirah twice his size on his back.

Best Time To Visit Malana
There is no “best time” to visit Malana, the village is accessible all year round. It depends on your taste; snow or not snow! If you want to experience snowfall, Plan your Trip to Himachal from Delhi in – December to the first week of February. The only downside of traveling during the summer months is that you can see the slow bylanes running within the village. During the summer months, the village is less clean and tidy. However, hashish farming is at its best during the summer months. We would recommend the winter months. And the photos prove it.
Things To Do In Malana
Besides walking around the village and visiting the village garden, there's not much to do here. And yes, no one in Malana leaves without taking at least one or two drab steps. Watch the beautiful sunrise from behind the Chandrakhani Peak. It's one of the most unrealistic sights you'll ever see. Take a trek to the waterfall located at the rear of the village, about 5 km from the village. Camp at Malana Magic camping or bring your tent and enjoy the camping experience. Although it's not allowed to enter the Jamlu Devta Temple, you can go up the temple and check out the miniature works done on the temple wall and temple doors. The village has some good stores selling everyday essentials and warm clothing. We bought some gumboots on Our way back.
